Congratulations! You have bought a wonderful telescope. This is a precision optical instrument, and you have many wonderful evenings of observing the night sky ahead of you. This on-line guide is to help you assemble your telescope properly.
We know that many people are visually oriented and that pictures of the assembly process would be helpful. Since your telescope assembly guide and instruction manual does not have a lot of pictures, we have put together this online guide to help you assemble your telescope for your first night of observing.
Your iOptron mount comes with a quick start guide. But you may be interested in downloading it or the full iOptron guide for your computer guided mount.

Once your telescope is assembled and ready to go, the rest is up to you. Learning astronomy is all the fun anyhow! So let’s get started . . .
ASSEMBLING THE TRIPOD
Putting the tripod together is a snap!

- Step 4
Your 70mm telescope attaches directly to the iOptron Mount and locks in place with a set screw: IMPORTANT: Be sure that the mounting “body belts” are positioned low enough on the telescope tube so that the focusing knobs can rotate clear the tripod legs when the telescope is the vertical “parked” position. This means the body belt around the center of the telescope should be roughly 2/3 of the way down the telescope as shown in Figure 4.
Figure 4 – Attach the telescope to the mount. Notice how about 2/3 of is above the body belts that attach it to the mount.
- Step 5
Next, you can attach the optional sighting scope to the main telescope as shown in Figure 5.

- Step 6
The angle prism fits into the back of the telescope tube as shown in Figure 6.

- Step 7
Finally, insert one of your eyepieces into the angular prism, as shown in Figure 7, and you are ready to begin observing. Be sure to tighten the set screw that holds the eyepiece in place.
